Yesterday the mailman brought me the MOST lovely package from Carol B. in England ... but I can't find her blog! :( Carol either researched my likes very thoroughly or we have eerily similar taste because the sweet pincushion she made me is "me" to a T. I am seriously in love with it. And then she added the most perfect little accents to it - a rusty pin and jingle bell, a vintage button - perfectly done. Just ... astonishing, really. I would sleep with it if I could, I love it that much.

The backside is also stitched, with a lovely flourishy set of my initials - exactly how I would write, if I didn't have to print like a third-grader in order to have it be legible. ;)

This is the most beautiful box in the world it is my exchange from Linda in Minnesota, Linda did the woodland Berries pattern and added my entials and the year to the stitching I love it, she finished the box is a beautiful antique look with a cranberry print fabric on the inside bottom, she also include pins with hearts and chocoltaes that of course my husband and I already ate yummy.
Linda did such a beautiful job I almost cried when I opened the wrapping, we had a wonderful lunch and then popped over to Joann Fabrics to see all the different types of pins they have to offer.
Linda is a lovely Lady I look forward to seeing her again.

Catherine and I met for lunch today and exchanged our gifts.
This was a wonderful experience. Catherine and I have a mutual friend; however, I have not seen our friend in a number of years. We think that the three of us might have to get together. Even if the three of us do not get together, Catherine and I plan to again.

Our paths crossed in the early to mid 1990's when Spirit of Cross Stitch was held in Des Moines, IA. One of the local needlework shops sponsored a bus from St. Paul to Des Moines and had group accommodations in a nearby motel. I went with a friend for two times and Catherine went to all of the Des Moines Spirit of Cross Stitch events. I remember that one of the times I went, the group went to dinner at a Machine Shed. I had never heard of it and little did I know at the time that one would eventually open near my home.

Now I suppose that you might want to know what I gave Catherine.

As you can see, I stitched Woodland Berries. I painted, distressed, and finished the box just the way Alma showed us. I also included some small gifts, not pictured here. For the picture I just used some things that I have to add interest. Catherine has a promise for some thread winders that I will make just the way Alma showed us. :-)

Following lunch, we went across the highway to see the newly opened Jo-Ann Fabrics store. I must admit that I only went out of curiosity and to show Catherine where the pins are in the store like the ones I gave her to use as counting pins. I also must sadly admit that I left before Catherine had finished shopping, Catherine thinks that I will get home and post before she can even though I had to drive an hour or so to get home.

Now I will add a picture of what Catherine made for me. It is a charming sewing book. As you can see, it goes very well with my old plate.

I know it's been ages since I was on here and you have all probably been wondering. Well I was given a new drug which once again didn't agree with me and I finally took myself off of it last weekend and it has now finally worked its way out of my system and I feel heaps better.

Well it's time for another exchange but this time with a HUGE difference.

This time you will know exactly who is going to be stitching your exchange because you will be stitching his/her exchange too so without further ado here we go onto

I've Not Been Well

Well if you read any of my other blogs you'll know I've been unwell for the past few months and it isn't getting any better. So I've made a couple of decisions regarding this blog.

Number One: It is having a hiatus until the middle of August when I shall post a new exchange
Number Two: When it comes back the exchange is going to be different:
(a) It isn't going to be secret exchange
(b) You will stitch for me and I will stitch for you

Not literally but I hope you know what I mean. A will stitch for B and B will stitch for A. It will still be a secret as to what is being stitched for you but not who is stitching for you.

This way I think it can be more specific insofar as telling your partner your real likes and dislikes are. I hope you all agree with this way of doing an exchange.

I received these 2 berries from Laura in April but unfortunately for me, I have been on the fast track in getting a Right total knee Replacement!! Needless to say, it has been a very stressful month--The knee surgery was done on Monday May 23rd.. So far, everything is OK!! And Laura, I just love the finishing that you did to the berries!! I just love the leaves and the actual stitching on the berries!!

Look What Came Today!!

Our post has been coming late in the afternoon so I try not to anticipate what is coming. This is the little pin cushion that Carol sent to me. The accessories in the picture are mine but the picture postcard in the upper right corner is from Carol. It shows some historic scenes of where she lives, Hedge End. How much fun is this? Hedge End was/is known as "Strawberry Village" because of all the strawberry farms in the area. I absolutely love strawberries and debated using some as props in the picture. In the end, I decided not to because they might stain the pin cushion.

I had so much trouble taking the picture and uploading the picture that I forgot to tell you the best part of the little cushion - - - the glorious scent of lavender.

Mayte tells me she was inspired by a design in Honeysuckle Manor and has stitched this version in a variegated pink thread.

But how clever ans inspired was this?

Mayte had a vintage mould and used it for the base.

She also included a lovely hand-made pin and a pretty matching card.

Yesterday afternoon I received this gorgeous pillow from Marjorie! She stitched Wild Lillies for me on mystery linen (I think we all of some of this in our stash lol) with the floss called for. She added some adorable buttons and also stitched around the wing to give it more definition as she said there wasn't much.
I absolutely adore this pillow Marjorie! It is perfect!!! It is now being displayed in my smalls basket in my living room so I can enjoy it.

Stitching Round 7

I am really sorry and don't know why I'm apologising except I'm really good at it. Anyway the reason your exchange partners are late is because my M.S. has really been playing up. I know I allow it to live with me but it has been extremely naughty and I would love to banish it. Saw my Neurologist last Thursday and he had the results of the first MRI I have had in almost 20 years and he wasn't best pleased. But I chose him specifically because he was Pro-active rather than being re-active. So he is going to sort out some medication for me and hopefully will stop some of this stuff.

Anyway that really isn't your problem but mine. So I have put up the new list of people I have included in Round 7 and if your name is not there and you want to be included please email me as soon as possible so I can include you.

I will send some of the names out tomorrow and some on Tuesday giving people time to say that they want to be included. So maybe this exacerbation of this wondrous disease that lives with me because it gives others time to say - 'hey here I am and I want to do this too'.

Because I have been late the new date that these have to be sent to your partner is April 30, 2011 so it gives you longer than I originally said and I hope that nobody minds the later date but you can send you exchange piece up to two weeks earlier if you so wish.

So some of you will be hearing from me tomorrow and the rest on Tuesday.

Well it's a New Year

It's 2011 and I haven't written anything on here for a while. So Happy New Year to you all. It's time for a new exchange I think. If you did not get an exchange please email me and let me know and whoever was supposed to stitch for you just won't be welcome on this new one, and that includes me because I was very very very late and only posted my exchange today. Sorry to the person I was sending to but I have included a few extra bits as compensation.

Now I see that some of you are including extras. This is a NO EXTRA exchange and I would really like to keep it like that please. Only send extras if you are really late in sending.

If any of you read my blog you will see that I am giving up stitching to a large part and have stopped my stitching blog. Now all I have to be able to do is just have my Quilting blog on, thought I don't want to turn off the stitching one - it will be there I just won't post on it anymore --- at least not for now. I wasn't enjoying stitching that much for quite a while and it had become more of a chore than a pleasure and when that happens it's time to quit. But I don't want to quit entirely so this is the only exchange I am still going to lead and participate in so nobody get worried because it isn't going to stop.

I have been out of town for the past ten days visiting my Mom and Dad, and when I arrived home, late last night, I was thrilled to find my Blackbird Designs exchange gift in my mailbox, from Karen.

I am in love with the most gorgeous stocking.....

Look at the Back!

This amazing Bed Stocking was stitched on 40ct over 2, using DMC floss, and the finishing is perfect! My camera didn't do the fabric on the back justice, it is so perfect for the stitched pattern.

I love love love it, and it is now hanging on my tree, where it will be treasured each and every year for many years to come.

I always really like to browse through this site to see the amazing projects stitchers completed for each round of the exchange.
So I thought I would show the piece I sent off to Barbara at Mainely Stitching.
Sorry - that reads as though I think mine is amazing - not what I meant to say at all!!!

It is from this year's (2010) Just Cross stitch magazine ornament edition and I chose to finish it as a needle case.

It is stitched over one, so the finished article is only about 2 inches square. I used mostly the recommended threads, just substituting a couple I didn't have. It is edged with tiny beads and finished with a red silk ribbon with larger beads at the ends.

It is lined with a small red check print and a green wool needle page.
I know Barbara liked it very much and I was happy to stitch it for her.

I am so excited - I have greatly admired the "Summer House Pincushion" from the BBD Honeysuckle Manor Booklet - I think it is a gorgeous pattern. So, when I opened a lovely package that came to my door today you can imagine the thrill as I removed the paper from the wonderful pincushion tucked inside

Just wanted to let you know that my BBD piece is finally off in the mail today! Yeah! I hope my partner likes it. The finishing didn't turn out perfect, but overall I'm happy with it.

I also received my exchange piece from Jennifer (Confessions of a Serial Starter)at the end of the week last week. The picture has been taken....I just haven't gotten the pics off the camera yet. I'll try to do that soon so you can all see what wonderful piece I got! I love it and have been showing it off to all customers. Look what I got in the mail from Lisa C.! The larger pin pillow is the "Now I Know My ABC's" freebie and the smaller pincushion is a motif from "Blessings and Kind Wishes." Lisa says she does not have much experience stitching on linen, but you would never know...they are both beautiful and the finishing is amazing. Thank you Lisa!

I opened a package from Mexico yesterday - and look what was inside.

This is my exchange gift from Laura and it is a lovely 'Summer Iris' scissor keep. Laura tells me it is stitched with DMC threads on 28 Monaco antique white linen and it is backed with a pretty printed fabric and ivory braid.

I am delighted with it. It is my first scissor keep and I love the design and stitching. Thank you so much Laura.

I just wanted to let you all know that some of your are going to get your exchange pieces but there are a number of us, me included, who are going to be somewhat late with sending out the exchanges. Some are ill (like me - flu for the past week, even after had a flu shot to prevent this) and I went to the doctor this afternoon after my dh and ds made me only to be told that because of my MS it could easily be another week before I'm better, and others have had other problems so please don't worry if you don't get your exchange pieces for a week or so or even more if they are coming from over the Pond!

Please let let me know if haven't received your exchange in, say, 3 weeks. So if you haven't received your exchange piece by December 21 please email me and let me know.

Thank you all so much for your tolerance of us late people, and there are quite a few of us. This just saves me writing to all the people who are going to get their exchanges later than expected and I hope you understand.

Look at this FABULOUS exchange I received from Sheril. It's a pin cushion using a design from Flowers of the Field. I love everything about it, the linen, the colours, the fact that it's stitched over one, the beads. I could go on and on. The pin cushion: floss taq are both from the honeysuckle manor booklet.
they are stitched on a 35 count beige linen, using Gentle Arts Sampler thread and Crescent colors.
i used a special flower ribbon for the border.
